MSD – UNITED WAY VIETNAM RECRUITS PROJECT & COMMUNICATION INTERNS FOR THE SDGs AND INNOVATION PROGRAM

 

Job title: Project Intern & Communication Intern (2 positions) for the SDGs and Innovation Program

Expected time to start: As soon as possible

Venue: MSD Hanoi Office – Room 1007, 17T9 Building, Hoang Dao Thuy Street, Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi

 

A. BACKGROUND

Management and Sustainable Development Institute is a Vietnamese non-profit organization, originally established on March 5, 2008.

For over 15 years, MSD has been taking long-lasting efforts to contribute to addressing social issues of differentcommunities in Vietnam. We always take actions to support and help disadvantaged and vulnerable community groups, especially children, youth, women, ethnic minorities, and people with disabilities.

Particularly, MSD was the only organization in Southeast Asia that has officially become a member of United Way Worldwide – a global non-profit network operating for over 135 years in nearly 40 countries and territories. MSD successfully fulfilled UWW’s rigorous criteria for professionalism and effectiveness and officially has become a member under the name of MSD United Way Vietnam since 2021.

The Projects in the SDGs and Innovation (SDGI) Program include, but not are not limited to:

  • Leave No One Behind Partnership Vietnam (LNOB Vietnam): The coalition of NGOs in Vietnam to ensure the voices of marginalized groups are heard and count in the process of Sustainable Development Goals implementation through Citizen-Generated Data (For further information on LNOB Vietnam, access here);
  • Shinhan Square Bridge (S2B) Vietnam: The project is coordinated by United Way Worldwide and MSD United Way Vietnam with sponsorship from the Shinhan Financial Group Hope Foundation. With an “open” innovation approach, cross-border and cross-sector collective impact, S2B Vietnam connects stakeholders in the innovation ecosystem to support innovative solutions that address social challenges and create sustainable impacts.   • Doing Good Index: A study of the civil society environment in Vietnam through data collection from NGOs and experts;
  • Inclusive Participation in SDGs in Vietnam: A project to promote the participation of social organizations and marginalized communities in the implementation of Vietnam’s Sustainable Development Goals. It will be achieved through (i) Meaningful participation of social organizations and marginalized communities in contributing to the SDG process of Vietnam in 2023 – 2025 and (ii) Capacity empowerment of the government officer in promoting inclusive participation in SDGs for vulnerable people;
  • AI for Good: A competition for school students (ages 6 to 18), designed to encourage young people to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to address and transform complex global challenges;
  • Vietnam Scaling Up Energy Efficiency Project (VSUEE): To develop and integrate communication strategies that help promote energy efficiency in Vietnam’s industrial sector and contribute to achieving national targets on energy efficiency and conservation, ensuring energy security and implementing tasks, actions to reduce greenhouse gas emission and respond to climate change.

 

B. ASSIGNMENT REQUESTS

  1. Assignment purpose: The SDGI Project & Communications Interns will support his/her direct supervisor and the team to manage and execute tasks within SDGI programs.
  2. Working location: Hanoi
  3. Assigned manager and technical supporter: Directly report to and be supported/coached by the SDGI Program Officer and Manager.
  4. Main responsibilities:

As a Project & Communication Intern at SDGI of MSD, you will be a key contributor in advancing a range of initiatives from inception to completion. In 2025, your diverse responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following areas:

4.1. Leave No One Behind Partnership Vietnam (LNOB Vietnam) & Inclusive Participation in SDGs in Vietnam

  • Assist the LNOB Secretariat to organize, coordinate, and meticulously document partnership meetings.
  • Assist in implementing partnership initiatives such as capacity-building workshops, research projects, data collection, and various on-ground activities.
  • Assist in implementing the Citizen-Generated Data initiatives of LNOB Vietnam.
  • Support the planning and execution of the “Make a Scene” podcast series, contributing to engaging content that highlights inclusivity.

4.2. Shinhan Square Bridge Vietnam

  • Work closely with the SDGI Program Officer/Manager to coordinate with start-ups and key partners.
  • Provide support for projects designed to empower start-ups that drive social change for marginalized populations.
  • Assist in arranging and managing the “Unlocking Open Innovation” podcast series to foster conversations around innovative solutions.

4.3. Doing Good Index

  • Help collect vital data and follow up with partners to ensure comprehensive research inputs.
  • Assist in documenting and synthesizing research findings and insights, ensuring the information is accessible for future reference.

4.4. AI for Good

  • Draft engaging social media content and design illustrations to increase awareness of the contest.
  • Support the organization of contest-related activities, including coordinating the award ceremonies to celebrate achievements.

4.5. Vietnam Scaling Up Energy Efficiency Project (VSUEE)

  • Develop and refine social media content and visuals to boost project awareness and recognition.
  • Assist in tracking and documenting social media KPIs to gauge outreach effectiveness and inform strategy.

4.6. Event Organization

  • Help organize events hosted at MSD, ensuring all activities follow established protocols and run smoothly.
  • Document event proceedings in detail and compile reports for future planning and evaluation.

4.7. Stakeholder Liaison

  • Act as a liaison with various stakeholders, maintaining clear and effective communication channels.
  • Assist in ensuring sustained, positive interactions with all stakeholders to support project success.

4.8. Documentation and Updates

  • Meticulously document project details, meeting notes, and outcomes to support transparency and accountability.
  • Assist in compiling detailed project reports that capture the progress, challenges, and successes of each initiative.

C. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduated or final year of bachelor studies, in social science, management, communication, social works, or related fields;
  • Experience with research activities, data analysis (for Project Intern) and/or multi-media communications (for Communication Intern) is a plus;
  • High command of communication and presentation skills in both Vietnamese and English;
  • Strategic thinking and analysis;
  • Strong MS Office proficiency;
  • Ability to work independently and professionally; good team work skills;
  • High commitment to work with the ability to commit for 6 months.

 

D. RECRUITMENT PROCESS

The recruitment process includes 3 rounds:

  • Round 1: CV and Cover Letter Screening
  • Round 2: Short Written Test for Selected Candidates from Round 1
  • Round 3: In-person Interview at MSD Hanoi Office for Selected Candidates
