Job title: Program Intern for the Social Innovation (SOAR) Program

1. BACKGROUND

Management and Sustainable Development Institute (MSD United Way Vietnam) is one of Vietnam’s leading organizations advancing sustainable development through social innovation, ecosystem collaboration, and inclusive partnerships. As a member of United Way Worldwide, MSD works with businesses, startups, government agencies, financial institutions, international organizations, civil society organizations, and communities to co-create innovative solutions for sustainable development challenges in Vietnam and the region.

During the 2026–2030 period, MSD aims to mobilize and coordinate the power of communities and multi-stakeholder ecosystems to advance inclusive growth and sustainable development in Vietnam.

MSD’s strategic directions for 2026–2030 include:

  • SOAR – Social Open Innovation: Co-creating innovative solutions for inclusive growth and sustainable development
  • CandY- Children and youth program: Expanding opportunities and unlocking the potential of children and youth
  • GREEN – Green living and resilient communities – Strengthening resilient and adaptive foundations for communities

Within this strategic vision, the Social Innovation (SOAR) Program serves as MSD’s platform for ecosystem building, innovation partnerships, and cross-sector collaboration. SOAR focuses on connecting businesses, startups, financial institutions, development partners, public sector actors, universities, and communities to co-create practical and scalable solutions for social and environmental challenges.

The program’s strategic priorities include:

  • Advancing ESG and responsible business practices
  • Promoting green finance and sustainable economic models
  • Strengthening social open innovation ecosystems and impact entrepreneurship
  • Supporting youth-led innovation and inclusive technology solutions
  • Applying citizen-generated data, AI, and innovation tools to improve sustainable development outcomes
  • Building ecosystem partnerships that connect innovation with real community impact

To support the implementation of SOAR initiatives and projects, MSD is recruiting a SOAR Program Intern to support project operation, communications, research coordination, and event implementation.

2. ASSIGNMENT REQUESTS

  • Assignment purpose: The SOAR Program Intern will support their direct supervisors (SOAR Program Manager and Officer) and the team to manage and execute tasks under the SOAR Program.
  • Working location: Hanoi, Vietnam
  • Assigned manager and technical supporter: Directly report to and be supported/coached by the SOAR Program Officer and Manager.
  • Main responsibilities:
    • Communication & Content Support (40%)
      • Support the development of communication materials, including social media content, articles, presentations, and other program publications.
      • Design simple communication assets (e.g. social media visuals, event materials, posters, slides) following MSD’s branding guidelines.
      • Assist in updating and maintaining program content across MSD’s communication channels, including the website and social media platforms.
    • Program & Event Coordination (60%)
      • Support project/program implementation throughout the project management cycle, including coordination, logistics, implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
      • Assist in organizing workshops, training sessions, meetings, conferences, and other project activities, including participant coordination and event logistics.
      • Coordinate with partners, vendors, volunteers, and participants to ensure smooth implementation of project activities.
      • Take meeting notes, prepare minutes, maintain project documentation, and support administrative and operational tasks.
      • Support data collection, monitoring, evaluation, and preparation of project reports and deliverables.
  • SOAR projects:

The main assignments for 2026 will include but are not limited to:

    • AGREEN and ESG project: The project “Promoting green investment and credit for agricultural enterprises for sustainable development” (AGREEN) is implemented by MSD Vietnam, with technical support from Oxfam and financial support from Fair Finance Asia (FFA). The project promotes green investment and green credit for agricultural enterprises committed to ESG practices, sustainable agriculture, and environmentally friendly business models in Vietnam.
    • INSPIRE Mekong project: The INSPIRE Mekong project is implemented by MSD United Way Vietnam and the Mekong Institute, Can Tho University, with funding from the Community Chest of Korea (CCK) and MiTek Vietnam. The project aims to strengthen the capacity of youth in the Mekong Delta, particularly university and college students in accessing and applying science, technology, and innovation (with a focus on AI and STEM) to identify and propose solutions to local challenges related to sustainable agriculture, environmental protection, and climate change adaptation. It also contributes to enhancing students’ career readiness and strengthening connections within the innovation ecosystem.
    • Future Solution Project (Shinhan Square Bridge Vietnam project): The project is coordinated by United Way Worldwide and MSD United Way Vietnam with sponsorship from the Shinhan Financial Group Hope Foundation. With an “open” innovation approach, cross-border and cross-sector collective impact, S2B Vietnam connects stakeholders in the innovation ecosystem to support innovative solutions that address social challenges and create sustainable impacts.
    • Enhancing the Value and Sustainable Development of Vietnam’s Coffee Sector Project (Sustainable Coffee – ESG): The project is implemented in partnership with SNV Netherlands Development Organisation. The project aims to promote the adoption of environmentally sustainable and socially responsible production and business practices in Viet Nam’s coffee sector, while strengthening the capacity and participation of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), cooperatives, associations, and other stakeholders.

  • Benefits:

    • Internship Allowance: Total support of up to VND 3,000,000 per month, including:
      • VND 2,000,000 per month, paid on a monthly basis.
      • A Program Completion Bonus of VND 6,000,000 for interns who successfully complete the full 6-month internship.

3. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Undergraduate senior, fresh graduate, or recent graduate in Social Sciences, Development Studies, International Relations, Communications, Business Administration, Project Management, or other relevant disciplines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both Vietnamese and English.
  • Good organizational, coordination, and time management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Experience in organizing events, student activities, volunteer programs, or extracurricular projects is an advantage.
  • Basic skills in content creation and visual design (e.g. Canva, PowerPoint, Adobe Express, or similar tools) are an advantage.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and online collaboration tools (Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc.).
  • Basic research, data collection, and reporting skills are an advantage.
  • Proactive, responsible, eager to learn, and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
  • Able to commit to a full-time internship for at least 6 months.

4. RECRUITMENT PROCESS

The recruitment process includes 3 rounds:

  • Round 1: CV and Cover Letter Screening
  • Round 2: Short Written Test for Selected Candidates from Round 1
  • Round 3: In-person Interview at MSD Hanoi Office for Selected Candidates
