“The staff in charge of communication activities do not have enough knowledge of brand and brand development as well”

This is one of the conclusions generated from the survey results shared at the Workshop and Webinar on “The capacity of brand development for Vietnamese CSOs” held by Research Center for Management and Sustainable Development on April 24, in Hanoi.

The survey “The current situation of brand building of Vietnamese NGOs, CSOs” by Center for Research and Communication for Sustainable Development (CSD) and MSD was launched in March 2017 and expected to finish in May 2017.

By emails and in-person interviews, the survey has collected 94 answers from 94 organizations across the country, mainly CBOs and NGOs. It is expected to gather more responses from Associations and Social Enterprises and interviews with some organizations to make the survey more objective and comprehensive.

The survey focuses on analyzing organizations’ current situation of brand building including implementation methods, ones in charge of brand building, difficulties and questions during the implementation process… In addition, the survey also has a list of questions that can assess CSOs’ capacity of fundraising such as implementation methods, management and use of funds, main funding sources…

Mentioning the very first results of the survey, “most of the organizations realize the importance of brand to their development, especially mobilization of resources, but do not know how to develop their own brand…” said Ms. Nguyen Diem Anh, Director of CSD.

Besides, despite of a variety of communication channels, they are not effectively used and the content is poor. That organizations do not have brand communication strategies and skilled staff for content marketing. And in most of the organizations, the staff in charge of communication activities do not have enough knowledge of brand and brand building and play concurrent roles.

At the workshop, “INSPIRING CSOs 2017 is designed to clear the gap in capacity of branding and resource connection among organizations. The survey will help MSD to develop the most effective and realistic program”, said Ms. Nguyen Phuong Linh, Director of MSD.
